NEWS RELEASE: CHILDREN’S DENTAL HEALTH GUIDE LAYS GROUNDWORK FOR A LIFETIME OF HEALTHY MOUTHS 

Westchester, NY – August, 2008 Popular children’s dental book, Smile Wide Look Inside, is now available in a Spanish-language edition. The release of the Spanish-language version of Smile Wide Look Inside is timely. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced that tooth decay is on the rise in preschool age children. Their report also stated that Mexican American children had a higher percentage of decay in permanent teeth than non-Hispanic children. This book can help Hispanic families and educators to reinforce proper oral health care with their children.

The book explains the often-mysterious dental office visit using familiar terms and visual cues. The author, Judith Dember-Paige, is a dental hygienist who has seen first-hand the need to communicate with children on “their level.” Follow our young patient Nicole as she visits her new dental office. Nicole’s apprehension is alleviated by friendly faces and caring attitudes. Many children have similar apprehension as they suffer silently with dental pain rather than ask for care.
